It’s been a minute since I have reached out. I still can’t believe five years have flown by since I first launched SHEER and embarked on this life changing body positivity and entreprenuerial journey. So much has happened for me in the last few years, and I can only imagine how much for you!
If you’re not familiar with how I started the brand, here are the cliff notes. Growing up in Los Angeles, beauty and being thin were synonymous – and navigating through Hollywood’s culture and standards was tough…especially as an awkward teenager. In my late twenties, things only got worse.
FACED WITH THE TRAUMA FROM A CAR ACCIDENT
That nearly took my life when I was 16 years old – I started to really struggle with body image issues which were more pronounced due to multiple injuries in my abdomen and lower back. Physically, my body recovered – but mentally and emotionally I did not.
I found myself always trying to cover up the massive six inch staple scar on my stomach – and the ensuing bloat that came from the scar tissue layers.
My professional day job required dressing for banking clients and often being on the road – so I was always looking for investment worthy dresses that I could wear day to night – and give me the body confidence to get over this tragic event and the changes my body went through – and feel like myself again.
Frustrated by the lack of quality, versatility, and options in the dress market and the lack of innovation in the shapewear industry (rolling, digging, pinching, and not to mention embarrassing to wear – no thanks!) – I became inspired to create SOMETHING BETTER.
What started as a passion project quickly developed into a revolutionary idea and business plan – I was on a mission to create the number one little black dress in America – and do it all from my parent’s garage. Fun fact: SHEER’s HQ’s for the first three years – true story (thanks Mom and Dad!!)
WHY THE LITTLE BLACK DRESS?
Well, Princess Diana, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe for starters! It’s classic, timeless, and a must-have staple in every woman’s wardrobe – but it was time for an upgrade!
Almost three years in the making and working closely with a former SPANX executive designer and industry veteran – we developed the world’s first patented three layer dress – with a built in bralette and shapewear solution.
